A Legendary Basketball, the name shine through the basketball hall of fame – one and only Michael Jordan decided to sell his a Lorinser-modified 1996 Mercedes-Benz S600 on eBay.
Formerly owned by basketball legend Michael Jordan, a Lorinser-modified 1996 Mercedes-Benz S600 coupe is for sale by Beverly Hills Car Club on eBay. Initially spotted by Car Advice, the auction is available until Aug. 23, and at the time of publishing, the coupe had already drawn a firm offer of over $185,000.Jordan owned this car with the Chicago Bulls, at the height of his career. The listing shows a picture of Jordan with the vehicle and his wife Juanita as the owners a copy of the original title. Smoother styling and further features were added by the C140-generation S-Class coupe (and its W140 sedan sibling). The latter paved the way for new, tech-heavy S-Class models but also provided a reputation for low reliability for the 140 models. Rapid depreciation has meant that all of these vehicles wound up second-hand buyers who couldn’t afford to maintain them.
The chrome Lorinser wheels of the Mercedes and their built-in car phone make it a pure throwback to the 1990s. The vendor does not mention any improvements outside the wheels, but Lorinser has given a performance upgrade with current Mercedes vehicles.
Presently showing 157,085 miles on the odometer, this coupe is the range-topping model S600, with a 6.0-liter V-12 under the hood making 389 horsepower and 420 pound-feet torque. Mercedes switched to “CL” terminology for their North American flagship coupe following the 1996 model year, and the S600 became the CL600.
In the next-generation S-Class sedan, a V-12 is expected to live on, though not in the performance guise of AMG. Last year AMG said goodbye to the S-Class V-12.
